HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, On January 29, 1999, Dr. Carlos R. Hamilton, Jr., 1-2 will be installed as the 98th president of the Harris County 1-3 Medical Society, the nation's second largest county medical 1-4 society, and this occasion is truly worthy of special legislative 1-5 recognition; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Established in 1903, HCMS is composed of more than 1-7 8,000 members who continue to work toward promoting the highest 1-8 standards of ethical medical practice for their community, while 1-9 advocating on behalf of physicians and patients alike; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Dr. Hamilton, a fourth generation Texas physician, 1-11 is the ideal choice to continue in the pursuit of these admirable 1-12 goals and to champion the tradition of excellence that has come to 1-13 define this outstanding organization; and 1-14 WHEREAS, After graduating with honors from Baylor College of 1-15 Medicine in Houston with an M.D. degree and a master of science 1-16 degree in physiology and endocrinology, Dr. Hamilton served as 1-17 chief resident at Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore 1-18 and as a research fellow with Massachusetts General Hospital at the 1-19 Harvard Medical School; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Currently physician and partner with the Medical 1-21 Clinic of Houston, he is also an associate professor at Baylor 1-22 College of Medicine's Department of Internal Medicine, the 1-23 Methodist Hospital, St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, and Ben Taub 1-24 General Hospital; and 2-1 WHEREAS, This eminent Texan is a fellow of the American 2-2 College of Physicians and served as director of the Texas chapter; 2-3 he is affiliated with numerous prestigious organizations and 2-4 associations, including the Texas Society of Internal Medicine, of 2-5 which he is a past president, and he has been listed in Who's Who 2-6 in Texas and Who's Who in Science and Technology; and 2-7 WHEREAS, A devoted family man, Dr. Hamilton and his wife, 2-8 Carolyn, are the proud parents of a son, Dr. Carlos R. Hamilton 2-9 III, who has followed in his father's professional footsteps, and a 2-10 daughter, Patricia Frances Hamilton, who is a graduate of the 2-11 University of Houston Law School; and 2-12 WHEREAS, Dr. Hamilton has shown his dedication to the future 2-13 by serving as chairman of the board of the Sam Houston Council of 2-14 the Boy Scouts of America, and he currently serves on the board of 2-15 directors of the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America; and 2-16 WHEREAS, In his performance of his duties as president of the 2-17 Harris County Medical Society, Carlos R. Hamilton, Jr., will 2-18 undoubtedly continue to receive from his colleagues the admiration 2-19 and respect that he so richly deserves, and it is indeed a pleasure 2-20 to honor him and wish him well in this endeavor; now, therefore, be 2-21 it 2-22 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-23 hereby congratulate Dr. Carlos R. Hamilton, Jr., on his selection 2-24 as president of the Harris County Medical Society; and, be it 2-25 further 3-1 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-2 prepared for Dr. Hamilton as an expression of high regard by the 3-3 Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
