HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, On February 25, 1999, Governor George W. Bush, 1-2 Lieutenant Governor Rick Perry, Speaker of the House of 1-3 Representatives James E. "Pete" Laney, and other leaders in the 1-4 legislative, executive, and judicial branches of state government, 1-5 as well as business leaders from throughout Texas, will gather in 1-6 Austin to participate in the Texas Prayer Breakfast; and 1-7 WHEREAS, This worthy event provides an opportunity for public 1-8 servants and civic leaders representing all faiths to join together 1-9 to acknowledge their shared belief in God, to give thanks for 1-10 blessings received, and to ask God to guide this state in a 1-11 positive direction and bring unity to Texas and its citizens; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Prayer has remained an integral element in the lives 1-13 of Texans throughout our state's rich history; in these demanding 1-14 and difficult times, it is indeed a great comfort to have an event 1-15 that focuses on the positive rather than the negative, in a setting 1-16 where individuals can unite to promote increased hope, faith, and 1-17 understanding through the strength of their shared convictions and 1-18 prayers; now, therefore, be it 1-19 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas 1-20 hereby encourage state and business leaders from across Texas to 1-21 attend and participate in this meaningful spiritual event.
