HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, One of the Lone Star State's greatest assets is a 1-2 rich musical tradition, and so it is with great pleasure that we 1-3 designate Lubbock and West Texas as the "Music Crossroads of 1-4 Texas"; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Texans enjoy a diverse musical heritage, and the 1-6 citizens of Lubbock and of West Texas have made significant 1-7 contributions to this cultural melange, playing an important role 1-8 in supporting local musicians and fostering the growth of the music 1-9 industry; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Music keeps the human spirit vital and also helps 1-11 record the history and culture of a group; Texas has been blessed 1-12 with many talented artists, including those from Lubbock and West 1-13 Texas, who help the state's citizens get in touch with their roots 1-14 and share the passions of Texans with the rest of the nation; and 1-15 WHEREAS, The roster of West Texas musicians is impressive and 1-16 includes such accomplished artists as Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Don 1-17 Williams, Butch Hancock, Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, Tanya Tucker, 1-18 Joe Ely, Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks, Billy Walker, The 1-19 Maines Brothers Band, Sonny Curtis, Darren Norwood, Ronna Reeves, 1-20 Andy Wilkinson, Johnny Ray Watson, Mac Davis, Bob Wills, Guy Clark, 1-21 Waylon Jennings, Jimmy Dean, the Crickets, Pat Green, Terry Allen, 1-22 Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers, and many others; and 1-23 WHEREAS, These notable artists have provided listeners with 1-24 countless hours of entertainment, contributing to the soundtracks 2-1 of our lives, and it is fitting that we not only recognize the 2-2 wealth of musical talent that has sprung from this region of our 2-3 state, but that we finally formalize the reputation that has long 2-4 been associated with the cultural landscape of West Texas; now, 2-5 therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-7 hereby designate Lubbock and West Texas as the "Music Crossroads of 2-8 Texas," and that the residents and musicians of these communities 2-9 be congratulated on their remarkable history and extended sincere 2-10 best wishes for continued musical achievements.
