No. 70 76R291 JHS-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Robert Marvin Bird on March 19, 1998, 1-2 at the age of 91, has brought a great loss to the family and many 1-3 friends of this esteemed gentleman; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A native of McLennan County, Mr. Bird was born on 1-5 November 25, 1906; he enjoyed a 39-year career with the Exxon 1-6 Corporation, retiring in 1971, and his lengthy tenure with the 1-7 company was marked by dedication and a commitment to excellence; 1-8 and 1-9 WHEREAS, Mr. Bird was a member of the First Baptist Church of 1-10 Ballinger and was active in the church's Men's Bible Class; a 1-11 master mason of the Ballinger Masonic Lodge, his 54-year 1-12 involvement with that respected organization was highlighted by his 1-13 receipt in 1992 of the Golden Trowel Award, the highest award that 1-14 may be given by a masonic lodge; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Robert Marvin Bird was a man of great kindness and 1-16 compassion; although his generosity and guidance have been missed 1-17 by all who knew him, his spirit lives on today in the hearts and 1-18 minds of the many people whose lives he touched during his years on 1-19 this earth; now, therefore, be it 1-20 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas 1-21 hereby pay tribute to the life of Robert Marvin Bird and extend 1-22 sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Ruth 1-23 Bird; to his son, Bobby Bird; to his sister, Fannie Bowden; to his 1-24 brother, Charles Bird; to his step-daughter, Linda Byrd, and her 2-1 husband, Coy Byrd; to his step-son, Joe Bob Moncrief, and his wife, 2-2 Emily Moncrief; to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and 2-3 to the many other relatives and friends of this beloved gentleman; 2-4 and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-6 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-7 House of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in 2-8 memory of Robert Marvin Bird.
