HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
1-1 WHEREAS, The family and many friends of Dr. Orman Lanier
1-2 "Lanny" Kimbrough IV were deeply saddened by the passing of this
1-3 distinguished gentleman on July 3, 1998, at the age of 50; and
1-4 WHEREAS, A native Texan, Dr. Kimbrough was born in Longview
1-5 on February 9, 1948; he was graduated from Longview High School in
1-6 1966 and pursued his undergraduate studies at The University of
1-7 Texas before earning his doctor of dental surgery degree at Baylor
1-8 College of Dentistry in Dallas; and
1-9 WHEREAS, While completing his master of science degree in
1-10 dentistry, Dr. Kimbrough was awarded an Othognathic Surgical
1-11 Fellowship from Southwestern Medical School, and he was a member of
1-12 both Psi Omega and Omicron Kappa Upsilon fraternities; he moved to
1-13 Odessa in 1975 and operated a successful orthodontic practice for
1-14 the next 22 years, during which time he amassed an impressive array
1-15 of professional accomplishments; and
1-16 WHEREAS, Dr. Kimbrough was named a diplomate of the American
1-17 Board of Orthodontics in 1984 and was an esteemed member of several
1-18 prestigious dental and orthodontic associations; he further served
1-19 his profession as a member of the Council on Orthodontic Practice
1-20 of the American Association of Orthodontists and as director and
1-21 president of the Texas Association of Orthodontists; he also gave
1-22 of his time and professional expertise as a longtime member of the
1-23 Permian Basin Cleft Palate Team and as a Pre-Professional Advisory
1-24 Committee member for The University of Texas of the Permian Basin;
2-1 and
2-2 WHEREAS, Despite the demands of his profession, this
2-3 remarkable man continually worked in behalf of his community, and
2-4 the many worthwhile organizations that benefited from his support
2-5 include the Odessa Symphony Association, the American Cancer
2-6 Society, the Easter Seal Association, the Odessa Downtown Rotary
2-7 Club, the Pillars of Odessa, the United Way, and the Ellen Noel Art
2-8 Museum; in all of his endeavors, Dr. Kimbrough was supported by his
2-9 wife of 28 years, Susan Henry Kimbrough, and the couple's two sons,
2-10 Lance and Kevin; and
2-11 WHEREAS, Throughout his lifetime, Orman Lanier Kimbrough IV
2-12 exemplified the highest standards of excellence, and though his
2-13 presence is gone from us now, his unique spirit will long endure in
2-14 the hearts of all who were privileged to know him; now, therefore,
2-15 be it
2-16 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas
2-17 hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Orman Lanier "Lanny"
2-18 Kimbrough IV and extend sincere condolences to the members of his
2-19 family: to his beloved wife, Susan Kimbrough; to his sons, Orman
2-20 Lanier "Lance" Kimbrough V and Kevin Henry Kimbrough; to his
2-21 parents, Orman Lanier and Marjorie Kimbrough; to his brother and
2-22 sister-in-law, Kenneth B. and Cindy Kimbrough; to his sister and
2-23 brother-in-law, Laurie and Robert Bruce; to his grandmother,
2-24 Mildred Olson; to his mother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ruth Ann
2-25 Henry and Barbara Henley; and to all the relatives and many friends
2-26 of this fine man; and, be it further
2-27 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3-1 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
3-2 House of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in
3-3 memory of Dr. Orman Lanier "Lanny" Kimbrough IV.
