HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, Many proud residents of Cass County will be in 1-2 Austin on February 24, 1999, to celebrate Cass County Day at the 1-3 Capitol; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Cass County was created by the first Texas 1-5 legislature in session after Texas was annexed by the United States 1-6 and was named after U.S. Senator Lewis Cass; taking full advantage 1-7 of the area's assets, resources, and convenient locale, the Cass 1-8 County business community continues to create excellent jobs for 1-9 its citizens; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Cass County's controlled expansion is characterized 1-11 by the integration of progressive ideas with the traditional values 1-12 that have so long characterized this historic county; it has the 1-13 oldest working courthouse in Texas, and with the motto, "Oldest 1-14 courthouse, Youngest spirit," Cass County is indeed committed to 1-15 creating a reliable infrastructure on which to build for the 1-16 future; and 1-17 WHEREAS, The piney hills of northeast Texas are home to an 1-18 abundance of beautiful lakes, rivers, and streams, where fishing, 1-19 hunting, and water sports are the order of the day; the area's 1-20 hospitable climate and numerous county and state parks and 1-21 wildflower trails further increase the opportunities to enjoy and 1-22 experience the great outdoors; and 1-23 WHEREAS, The people of Cass County are justifiably proud of 1-24 their county, for this unique community and its exceptional 2-1 citizens have played a significant role in Texas' development, and 2-2 their many contributions to the Lone Star State are truly worthy of 2-3 special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-5 hereby recognize February 24, 1999, as Cass County Day at the 2-6 Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the fine citizens who have 2-7 traveled to Austin to celebrate this significant event; and, be it 2-8 further 2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-10 prepared for the residents of Cass County as a commemoration of 2-11 this occasion and as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-12 House of Representatives and Senate.
