No. 80 76R5731 NBH-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The year 1998 marked the 100th anniversary of 1-2 Southwest Texas Telephone Company, and this remarkable milestone is 1-3 an event truly worthy of special recognition; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Founded in 1898 by Mr. Street Gilmer to provide 1-5 telephone service between Rocksprings and Kerrville, this company 1-6 today provides service to approximately 3,500 customers; and 1-7 WHEREAS, The area served by Southwest Texas Telephone Company 1-8 covers some 3,600 square miles and includes towns in the following 1-9 counties: Bandera, Edwards, Kerr, Kinney, Medina, Real, Uvalde, 1-10 and Val Verde; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Overcoming challenges unique to rural area telephone 1-12 service, this noteworthy company provides state-of-the-art digital 1-13 switching, fiberoptic transmission facilities, and the most modern 1-14 services; Southwest Texas Telephone Company offers its customers a 1-15 level of service and options on par with those available in 1-16 metropolitan regions of the state; and 1-17 WHEREAS, This company has remained a family-owned business 1-18 since its inception more than a century ago, and as small 1-19 businesses of this caliber are vital to the booming economy of the 1-20 Lone Star State it is important for us to honor Southwest Texas 1-21 Telephone Company; now, therefore, be it 1-22 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas 1-23 hereby congratulate Southwest Texas Telephone Company on 100 years 1-24 of service to the rural Texas Hill Country and extend to its owners 2-1 and employees sincere best wishes for continued success and 2-2 happiness in the years to come; and, be it further 2-3 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-4 prepared for Southwest Texas Telephone Company as an expression of 2-5 high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
