HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas Legislature is proud to congratulate 1-2 Ricardo Romo, who has been selected to lead The University of Texas 1-3 at San Antonio as president; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A native of San Antonio, Mr. Romo is a noted scholar 1-5 and researcher who has devoted three decades of his life to 1-6 distinctive service as an educator and administrator; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Mr. Romo has enjoyed a long association with The 1-8 University of Texas System; in 1980, he began his tenure as an 1-9 associate history professor at the Austin campus, a responsibility 1-10 he still carries, and in 1993 he was promoted to his current 1-11 position as vice provost for undergraduate education; and 1-12 WHEREAS, His distinguished career in higher education began 1-13 in 1970 at California State University, Northridge, where he served 1-14 as assistant professor of the Chicano studies department for three 1-15 years before accepting a post as assistant history professor at the 1-16 University of California, San Diego, which he held from 1973 to 1-17 1980; he returned to Texas as vice president and director of The 1-18 Tomas Rivera Center at San Antonio's Trinity University, and he 1-19 served admirably in that capacity from 1987 to 1993; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Ricardo Romo has made significant contributions to 1-21 educational excellence throughout his career, and he is indeed 1-22 worthy of special recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas 1-24 hereby congratulate Ricardo Romo on his selection as president of 2-1 The University of Texas at San Antonio and extend to him sincere 2-2 best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further 2-3 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-4 prepared for Mr. Romo as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-5 House of Representatives and Senate.
