                             HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 1-1           WHEREAS, With more than 300 days of sunny to partly sunny
 1-2     skies every year, the city of El Paso surely outshines all other
 1-3     large Texas cities; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Home to the Sun Bowl, the second oldest bowl game in
 1-5     the U.S.  and considered number one in team hospitality, El Paso
 1-6     also hosts the Sun Carnival each December, when parades, music, and
 1-7     dancing all occur under clear Texas skies; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, The region's broad blue horizon also allows the Sun
 1-9     Bowl Association to sponsor the annual Savane College All-America
1-10     Golf Classic, as well as the hugely popular Sierra Providence
1-11     SunClassic Basketball Tournament; and
1-12           WHEREAS, Pleasant weather year-round and the fertile Rio
1-13     Grande Valley soil boost the production of a host of agricultural
1-14     crops, including cotton, onions, peppers, and pecans; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Drawn by the bright sun and the wealth of
1-16     activities, tourists flock to El Paso, the largest city on our
1-17     nation's southern border; whether shopping at the mercados, taking
1-18     in a bullfight, touring the old missions and forts, or hiking the
1-19     Franklin Mountains, there is truly something for everyone under the
1-20     sun in El Paso; and
1-21           WHEREAS, The residents of El Paso have indeed made the most
1-22     of their singularly sunny city, and they are justifiably proud of
1-23     their many successes; their long-standing traditions and many years
1-24     of determined efforts have rightfully earned their city distinction
 2-1     as the Official Sun City Capital of Texas; now, therefore, be it
 2-2           RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas
 2-3     hereby declare the city of El Paso the Sun City Capital of Texas;
 2-4     and, be it further
 2-5           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-6     prepared for prominent display in El Paso.   BEGCAPTION
