No. 112 76R8307 MDM-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas Legislature is proud to congratulate Lois 1-2 Jean Moore on her retirement from the Harris County Hospital 1-3 District on May 31, 1999, concluding an outstanding career in 1-4 public health care spanning more than four decades; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Mrs. Moore has ably guided the Harris County 1-6 Hospital District as president and chief executive officer since 1-7 1989, and she served the district as executive vice president and 1-8 chief operating officer for two years before accepting her current 1-9 position; under her visionary leadership, the district has twice 1-10 been named among the top 100 hospitals in the United States by 1-11 Modern Healthcare magazine; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Under her management, outpatient care and disease 1-13 prevention and health promotion programs have been enhanced, and 1-14 community outreach initiatives have been expanded to include 1-15 mammography, diabetes screening, immunizations, early detection, 1-16 and health care for the homeless; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Mrs. Moore earned a nursing diploma from Prairie 1-18 View A&M School of Nursing in 1957; continuing her pursuit of 1-19 academic excellence at Texas Woman's University, she graduated with 1-20 a bachelor of science degree in nursing in 1970 and obtained a 1-21 master's degree in education from Texas Southern University in 1-22 1974; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Mrs. Moore began her career as an emergency center 1-24 charge nurse at Jefferson Davis Hospital, and through the years she 2-1 worked there and at Ben Taub General Hospital, assuming 2-2 responsibilities as a shift supervisor, nursing services assistant 2-3 director, director, and hospital administrator, prior to her 2-4 affiliation with the hospital district; and 2-5 WHEREAS, A respected voice in her field, Mrs. Moore holds 2-6 leadership positions in a number of health-related and professional 2-7 organizations, including membership on the boards of American Red 2-8 Cross, March of Dimes, United Way, National Association of Public 2-9 and Non-Profit Hospitals, and the Texas Association of Public 2-10 Hospitals; and 2-11 WHEREAS, This esteemed woman has received a number of 2-12 well-deserved honors and accolades during her tenure, including in 2-13 1996 an honorary doctorate of humane letters from Our Lady of the 2-14 Lake University in San Antonio, a 1998 Distinguished Service to 2-15 Children Award from the Texas Pediatric Society, a 1994 Tree of 2-16 Life Award from the Jewish National Fund, and others too numerous 2-17 to mention; she is a Fellow of the American College of Health Care 2-18 Executives and is included in Who's Who in America; and 2-19 WHEREAS, Mrs. Moore and her husband, Harold, have enjoyed a 2-20 strong and happy relationship and they have been blessed with a 2-21 daughter and two granddaughters; and 2-22 WHEREAS, During this remarkable woman's four decades of 2-23 notable service in public health care she has exemplified the 2-24 highest ideals of the medical profession and she is truly worthy of 2-25 special recognition for her accomplishments; now, therefore, be it 2-26 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-27 hereby commend Lois Jean Moore for a distinguished career in the 3-1 field of public health care and extend to her warmest best wishes 3-2 for a fulfilling and enjoyable retirement; and, be it further 3-3 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-4 prepared for Mrs. Moore as an expression of high regard by the 3-5 Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
