                             HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 1-1           WHEREAS, Brigadier General Wayne D. Marty, assistant adjutant
 1-2     general for the U.S. Army, Texas Army National Guard, will mark his
 1-3     58th birthday on March 5, 1999, and this  event indeed merits
 1-4     special legislative recognition; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, A native of San Antonio, General Marty received a
 1-6     bachelor of arts degree in music from St. Mary's University and
 1-7     began his military career in 1965; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, After graduating from Army Flight School in 1967,
 1-9     this committed and able patriot proudly served his country as an
1-10     armed helicopter platoon commander with the Tiger Sharks in
1-11     Vietnam; General Marty was later assigned to Fort Hood, initially
1-12     with the Second Armored Division and later as commander of the
1-13     First Cavalry's D Troop; and
1-14           WHEREAS, General Marty joined the Texas National Guard in
1-15     1970, and his years since have been marked with distinction and
1-16     increasing responsibility; he was promoted to brigadier general in
1-17     1993, and he currently serves at the Texas Army National Guard
1-18     headquarters in Austin; and
1-19           WHEREAS, Throughout his outstanding career, General Marty has
1-20     earned numerous decorations and awards, including the Meritorious
1-21     Service Medal, the Army Air Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and
1-22     the Texas Achievement Medal; and
1-23           WHEREAS, Equally committed to his family, he enjoys a happy
1-24     and rewarding marriage with his wife, Janie, and takes great pride
 2-1     in his three children, Ritchie, Robin, and Brandy; in recent years,
 2-2     the children have begun families of their own, and the addition of
 2-3     grandchildren Hunter, Emily, and Sara has kept his life a full and
 2-4     happy one, though he still manages to find time to pursue his
 2-5     interests in history, hunting, and fishing; and
 2-6           WHEREAS, General Marty has lived an exemplary life of
 2-7     devotion to country and family, and it is justly fitting to honor
 2-8     him at this time; now, therefore, be it
 2-9           RESOLVED, That the 76th  Legislature of the State of Texas
2-10     hereby congratulate Brigadier General Wayne D. Marty on the
2-11     occasion of his birthday and extend to him best wishes for
2-12     continued success and happiness; and, be it further
2-13           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-14     prepared for General Marty as an expression of high regard by the
2-15     Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
