No. 121 76R8435 JHS-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, 1999 marks the 10th anniversary of the JASON 1-2 Foundation for Education's JASON Project, and this occasion is 1-3 truly worthy of special legislative recognition; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A nonprofit educational organization headquartered 1-5 in Waltham, Massachusetts, the JASON Foundation for Education is 1-6 sponsored by EDS, which also serves as technology provider for this 1-7 visionary program; and 1-8 WHEREAS, JASON is the brainchild of Dr. Robert Ballard and 1-9 was established to excite and engage students of science and 1-10 technology while at the same time motivating and providing 1-11 professional development for their teachers through the use of 1-12 advanced interactive telecommunications; and 1-13 WHEREAS, The project's approach to learning and teaching 1-14 science is light years beyond the traditional textbook methods and 1-15 is turning students into firsthand scientific explorers, inspiring 1-16 a new enthusiasm for the fields of study that need it most: science 1-17 and technology; and 1-18 WHEREAS, This unique organization is at the forefront of 1-19 moving science education into the new millennium and ushering in a 1-20 new age of science and technology; by employing the most advanced 1-21 technology available, students are transported to real scientific 1-22 expeditions where they can communicate one-on-one with scientists 1-23 in the field; and 1-24 WHEREAS, Since its establishment, the JASON Project and the 2-1 JASON Foundation for Education have grown from serving 200,000 2-2 students in the United States and Canada to reaching more than two 2-3 million students and teachers in the U.S., Canada, the United 2-4 Kingdom, Mexico, and Bermuda; and 2-5 WHEREAS, The JASON Foundation for Education continues to grow 2-6 by expanding its operations and availability and by increasing its 2-7 user sessions and live expedition broadcasts, and all those 2-8 associated with this inestimable organization and EDS are to be 2-9 commended for their hard work and dedication to the study of 2-10 science and technology; now, therefore, be it 2-11 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-12 hereby recognize the 10th anniversary of the JASON Foundation for 2-13 Education's JASON Project and honor the many individuals who devote 2-14 their time and energy to this noteworthy program; and, be it 2-15 further 2-16 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-17 prepared for the members of the JASON Foundation for Education as 2-18 an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives 2-19 and Senate.
