No. 124 76R5462 JHS-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The Asian Cultures Museum & Educational Center is 1-2 truly a unique resource that has benefited the citizens of Corpus 1-3 Christi for nearly a quarter of a century, and its long-standing 1-4 service to both residents and visitors of Texas alike is indeed 1-5 deserving of special legislative recognition; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Founded in 1974 by Mrs. Billie Trimble Chandler, the 1-7 museum houses one of the finest and most extensive collections of 1-8 Asian artifacts in the United States and is the only gallery of its 1-9 kind in Texas; its operation is financed only through the generous 1-10 support of its patrons within the community and the facility does 1-11 not receive any state appropriations; and 1-12 WHEREAS, The majority of the museum's outstanding collection 1-13 was brought from Japan to America in the 1950s, and the facility's 1-14 numerous exhibits also include exquisite pieces from China, Korea, 1-15 India, the Philippines, Vietnam, and the countries of Southeast 1-16 Asia; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Thanks to the efforts of executive director Ellen N. 1-18 Murry and the many other individuals who have devoted their time 1-19 and energy to the success of the museum, the Asian Cultures Museum 1-20 & Educational Center continues to serve a vital role in the Corpus 1-21 Christi community, providing an invaluable resource for increasing 1-22 public awareness of the countries of Asia and their peoples; now, 1-23 therefore, be it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-1 hereby designate Corpus Christi's Asian Cultures Museum & 2-2 Educational Center the Official State Museum of Asian Cultures; 2-3 and, be it further 2-4 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-5 prepared for prominent display in the museum as an expression of 2-6 high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
