                             HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 1-1           WHEREAS, Texas Tech University women's basketball coach
 1-2     Marsha Sharp has been inducted into the Texas Women's Hall of Fame,
 1-3     and this outstanding honor is indeed well-deserved; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, In 17 years as head coach at Texas Tech University,
 1-5     Coach Sharp has won more than 400 games and has built the women's
 1-6     basketball program into a true powerhouse, earning numerous
 1-7     national and conference accolades, including the 1993 NCAA national
 1-8     championship; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, While a part of the Southwest Conference, Coach
1-10     Sharp's Lady Raiders never finished below third place and advanced
1-11     to the Sweet 16 or beyond in the NCAA tournament each year from
1-12     1991 to 1996; she was named coach of the year for five of the
1-13     conference's last seven seasons; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Her teams' tradition of excellence has continued
1-15     since Texas Tech joined the Big 12 Conference in 1996, claiming two
1-16     of the first three conference crowns and competing in the NCAA
1-17     tournament each year; during her years as head coach, the Lady
1-18     Raiders have racked up at least 20 wins in 14 out of 17 seasons;
1-19     and
1-20           WHEREAS, Coach Sharp takes special pride and satisfaction in
1-21     the 99-percent graduation rate of her players; their academic and
1-22     athletic success is a testament to the emphasis she places on
1-23     excellence both in the classroom and on the basketball court; and
1-24           WHEREAS, In addition to serving as director of the Lady
 2-1     Raider Basketball Camps, Coach Sharp is also active as a member of
 2-2     numerous boards and committees and often appears before civic
 2-3     organizations as a dinner speaker; like the other honorees inducted
 2-4     into the Texas Women's Hall of Fame, her achievements are not
 2-5     limited to athletics, and her significant community contributions
 2-6     have greatly benefited the Lone Star State; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, Marsha Sharp has distinguished herself as one of the
 2-8     most respected women's basketball coaches in the nation, and as she
 2-9     takes pride in her most recent honor, it is most fitting that she
2-10     be recognized; now, therefore, be it
2-11           RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas
2-12     hereby honor Texas Tech University women's basketball coach Marsha
2-13     Sharp on her induction into the Texas Women's Hall of Fame and
2-14     extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and
2-15     happiness; and, be it further
2-16           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-17     prepared for Coach Sharp as an expression of high regard by the
2-18     Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
