No. 150 76R705 JHS-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The untimely passing of Del Rio's Dr. Lonnie Green 1-2 on September 13, 1997, at the age of 61, brought a great loss to 1-3 the family and many friends of this beloved and respected 1-4 gentleman; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The pastor of the Bible Way Church of Our Lord Jesus 1-6 Christ, Dr. Green was actively involved in a number of other local 1-7 organizations, including the Del Rio Ministerial Alliance and the 1-8 Child Welfare Board; and 1-9 WHEREAS, A counselor and teacher as well, this remarkable 1-10 gentleman served two terms on the San Felipe Del Rio Consolidated 1-11 School District Board of Trustees and was well known for his work 1-12 with young people; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Dr. Green devoted considerable time and energy to 1-14 his work at the Del Rio Counseling Center, Southwest Texas Junior 1-15 College, Sul Ross State University, and Del Rio High School, 1-16 teaching a range of subjects, including physical education, 1-17 history, and English; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Regarded as a spiritual leader by many of his fellow 1-19 citizens, Dr. Green was a dynamic speaker who had a great passion 1-20 for spreading the word of God; his strength and integrity were 1-21 legendary, and his positive attitude and generosity earned him the 1-22 respect and admiration of his family, friends, and neighbors; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Lonnie Green was a man of rare character and 1-24 compassion, and his faith and guidance served as an inspiration to 2-1 countless individuals; although he has been missed by all who knew 2-2 him, his spirit lives on in the hearts and minds of the many people 2-3 whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-5 hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Lonnie Green and extend 2-6 sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Doris 2-7 Thomas Green; to his five children; and to the many other relatives 2-8 and friends of this respected gentleman; and, be it further 2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-10 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-11 House of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in 2-12 memory of Dr. Lonnie Green.
