HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Minerva C. Uranga brought a great
1-2 loss to the family and many friends of this beloved woman, and it
1-3 is indeed appropriate to honor her memory at this time; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Mrs. Uranga enjoyed a brilliant career as a teacher
1-5 at Alpine's Centennial School, where she taught social studies and
1-6 coached the girls' volleyball and basketball teams for many years;
1-7 and
1-8 WHEREAS, Hired in 1950, this longtime educator played an
1-9 important and memorable role in the lives of many of her students,
1-10 emphasizing the importance of their cultural heritage and offering
1-11 them a meaningful perspective by which to view our nation's
1-12 history; and
1-13 WHEREAS, Mrs. Uranga's words of encouragement and disciplined
1-14 teaching style helped to prepare her students for the rigors of
1-15 higher education and for the many other challenges that life has to
1-16 offer, and her devotion to them and to the teaching profession was
1-17 truly commendable; and
1-18 WHEREAS, Minerva Uranga was a woman of passion and
1-19 dedication, and although she has been missed by all who knew her,
1-20 her legacy surely lives on through the accomplishments and
1-21 contributions of her students, and her memory endures in the hearts
1-22 and minds of her relatives and friends; now, therefore, be it
1-23 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas
1-24 hereby pay tribute to the life of Minerva C. Uranga and extend
2-1 sincere sympathy to the family and friends and former colleagues
2-2 and students of this esteemed woman; and, be it further
2-3 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-4 prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas
2-5 House of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in
2-6 memory of Minerva C. Uranga.
