HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Gillespie County Fair, founded in 1881, is the
 1-2     oldest continuous county fair in the State of Texas; and
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association,
 1-4     Inc., was created for the purposes of holding fairs and festivals
 1-5     and encouraging, instructing, and educating the youth of Gillespie
 1-6     County; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, The Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association
 1-8     is recognized as a purely charitable organization that is governed
 1-9     by a board of directors consisting entirely of volunteers who
1-10     donate in excess of 15,000 volunteer man-hours annually to the Fair
1-11     Association; in addition to the board, the Fair Association also
1-12     has numerous individuals who contribute their time and labor
1-13     yearly; and
1-14           WHEREAS, The Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association
1-15     owns and operates the celebrated Gillespie County Fairgrounds,
1-16     which it leases for incidental use to a variety of organizations
1-17     whose activities are beneficial to the community; and
1-18           WHEREAS, The association has established one of the most
1-19     aggressive scholarship programs in the area, awarding over $80,000
1-20     in college scholarships to deserving Gillespie County High School
1-21     seniors, and in the past two years it has raised over $36,000 for
1-22     the Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association Scholarship
1-23     Fund; now, therefore, be it
1-24           RESOLVED, That the Gillespie County Fair and Festivals
 2-1     Association be commended for its charitable acts, the use of its
 2-2     man power and facilities for charitable purposes, and its
 2-3     overwhelming support throughout the community; and, be it further
 2-4           RESOLVED, That the Gillespie County Fair and Festivals
 2-5     Association be recognized for its hard work in carrying on a
 2-6     tradition, continuing to strive to provide the community with the
 2-7     quality entertainment the Fair Association is known for and
 2-8     continuing to provide for the success of the area youth.
