HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The Gillespie County Fair, founded in 1881, is the 1-2 oldest, continuous county fair in the state of Texas; and 1-3 WHEREAS, The Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association, 1-4 Inc. was created for the purpose of holding fair and festivals, and 1-5 encouraging, instructing, and educating the youth of Gillespie 1-6 County; and 1-7 WHEREAS, The Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association 1-8 is recognized as a purely charitable organization which is governed 1-9 by a board of directors consisting entirely of volunteers who 1-10 donate in excess of 15,000 volunteer man hours annually to the Fair 1-11 Association; and, in addition to the board, the Fair Association 1-12 also has numerous individuals who contribute their time and labor 1-13 yearly; and 1-14 WHEREAS, The Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association 1-15 owns and operates the celebrated Gillespie County Fairgrounds, 1-16 which it leases for incidental use to a variety of organizations 1-17 whose activities are beneficial to the community; and 1-18 WHEREAS, The association has established one of the most 1-19 aggressive scholarship programs in the area, awarding over $80,000 1-20 in college scholarships to deserving Gillespie County High School 1-21 seniors, and in the past two years has raised over $36,000 for the 2-1 Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association Scholarship Fund; 2-2 now, therefore, be it 2-3 RESOLVED, That the Gillespie County Fair and Festivals 2-4 Association be commended for its charitable acts, the use of its 2-5 manpower and facilities for charitable purposes, and its 2-6 overwhelming support throughout the community; and, be it further 2-7 RESOLVED, That the Gillespie County Fair and Festivals 2-8 Association be recognized for its hard work to carry on a tradition 2-9 and will continue to strive to provide the community with the 2-10 quality entertainment the Fair Association is known for, and will 2-11 continue to provide for the success of the area youth.
