HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 1-1           WHEREAS, David Garza of San Antonio was recently named
 1-2     southwest regional director of The Enterprise Foundation, and this
 1-3     special recognition is indeed well-deserved; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Mr. Garza's distinguished career in public service
 1-5     spans a quarter-century, and for the past four years he has held
 1-6     the post of director of the foundation's San Antonio office; in
 1-7     that capacity, he has collaborated with neighborhood groups and
 1-8     civic and business leaders to successfully address inner-city
 1-9     housing and other community revitalization issues; and
1-10           WHEREAS, The Enterprise Foundation unites its efforts with
1-11     community-based organizations and local institutions to revitalize
1-12     neighborhoods by enhancing safety, developing affordable housing,
1-13     and encouraging the growth of community and individual assets; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Mr. Garza brings to his new position a wealth of
1-15     valuable experience for, in addition to his work for the
1-16     foundation, he has served in the past as director of the HOME
1-17     Investment Partnership Program for the Texas Department of Housing
1-18     and Community Affairs and has worked closely with the Neighborhood
1-19     Reinvestment Corporation's San Antonio office, the United States
1-20     Commission on Civil Rights, and the Economic Opportunity
1-21     Development Corporation; and
1-22           WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman is valued for his leadership
1-23     ability, and he shares his time and energy with many worthy local
1-24     and national organizations; he is an active member of the National
 2-1     Association of Housing and Redevelopment Organizations, the Texas
 2-2     Federal Rural Development Council, San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of
 2-3     Commerce, and the San Antonio 1999 Bond Steering Committee; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, Mr. Garza's admirable civic involvement also
 2-5     includes 12 years of service as a trustee of the Edgewood ISD and
 2-6     seven years of service as a member of the San Antonio Development
 2-7     Agency Board of Commissioners, which he also led as chairman; and
 2-8           WHEREAS, David Garza's longtime dedication to affordable
 2-9     housing and neighborhood revitalization has enhanced the quality of
2-10     life of countless Texans, and it is most fitting that he be honored
2-11     at this time; now, therefore, be it
2-12           RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas
2-13     hereby commend David Garza on his distinguished public service and
2-14     congratulate him on his new position as southwest regional director
2-15     of The Enterprise Foundation; and, be it further
2-16           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-17     prepared for Mr. Garza as an expression of high regard by the Texas
2-18     House of Representatives and Senate.
