No. 167 76R294 JHS-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The recent passing of Toliver "Tol" Henry Dawson on 1-2 January 12, 1998, at the age of 71, has brought a great loss to the 1-3 family and many friends of this esteemed gentleman; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Born in Del Rio on August 10, 1926, Mr. Dawson was a 1-5 graduate of Del Rio High School and a longtime member of the Texas 1-6 Highway Patrol and the Texas Rangers; his roots in West Texas were 1-7 strong, as were the many friendships that he forged throughout his 1-8 years in that area, and his commitment to upholding justice for his 1-9 fellow citizens earned him the respect and admiration of countless 1-10 individuals; and 1-11 WHEREAS, A veteran of the U.S. Navy, this patriotic 1-12 individual served aboard the U.S.S. Barnwell during World War II 1-13 and was honorably discharged in 1946; after graduating with the 1-14 14th Patrol Class in 1949, he began his 16-year career with the 1-15 Texas Highway Patrol, continuing the tradition of law enforcement 1-16 service established by his great uncle, Elias Dawson, and his 1-17 father, Wilson Toliver Dub Dawson; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Mr. Dawson served with the Texas Rangers for more 1-19 than 22 years, retiring in 1986, and his dedicated service to this 1-20 highly regarded law enforcement agency truly reflected his 1-21 commitment to providing law and order for all Texans; during his 1-22 tenure with the Rangers, he was stationed in Carrizo Springs, 1-23 Pecos, and, eventually, Del Rio, and in time he came to be 1-24 recognized as one of the "old-timers" he so admired and idolized 2-1 during his younger years; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Toliver "Tol" Henry Dawson was a man of honor and 2-3 integrity, and although his love and companionship will be missed 2-4 by all those who knew him, his spirit will surely live on in the 2-5 hearts and minds of the many people whose lives he touched during 2-6 his lifetime; now, therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-8 hereby pay tribute to the life of Toliver "Tol" Henry Dawson and 2-9 extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family: to his 2-10 wife, Dorothy Dawson; to his daughter, Verna Jean Dawson; to his 2-11 son, Dub Alfred Dawson; to his sister, Mary Burk; to his grandson, 2-12 Reese Ivy Dawson; to his brother-in-law, Cecil C. Ginn; and to the 2-13 many other relatives and friends of this beloved gentleman; and, be 2-14 it further 2-15 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-16 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-17 House of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in 2-18 memory of Toliver "Tol" Henry Dawson.
