No. 172 76R300 WMS-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Evelyn Poag Prude on January 19, 1-2 1998, at the age of 91, brought a great loss to the many friends 1-3 and relatives of this esteemed Del Rio resident; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A native Texan, she was born in Evant on August 31, 1-5 1906; Mrs. Prude attended The University of Texas at Austin, 1-6 attaining her degree from that fine institution, and later went on 1-7 to serve the cause of education as a classroom teacher; and 1-8 WHEREAS, In 1930 she became the bride of Paul Poag and shared 1-9 many rewarding years of marriage with him until his passing in 1-10 1959; she was fortunate to find love again with John G. Prude, who 1-11 became her second husband, and their union was a source of 1-12 tremendous joy and strength to her; and 1-13 WHEREAS, She was a great supporter of artistic expression in 1-14 the Del Rio community and, together with her husband, she donated 1-15 the Rita Theater to the city of Del Rio to create the Paul Poag 1-16 Theater for the Performing Arts; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Mrs. Prude was an active member of the First United 1-18 Methodist Church and also devoted her time and energy to such 1-19 worthy organizations as the Del Rio Music Club, Del Rio Fine Arts 1-20 Club, Pan American Roundtable, and the Christian Women's Club; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Evelyn Poag Prude was a woman of rare compassion and 1-22 generosity; although her warmth and dedication to others have been 1-23 greatly missed, her remarkable spirit surely lives on in the hearts 1-24 of the many people whose lives she touched during her time on this 2-1 earth; now, therefore, be it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-3 hereby honor the life of Evelyn Poag Prude and extend sincere 2-4 sympathy to the members of her family: to her husband, John G. 2-5 Prude; to her children, John Robert Prude and Ruth Elizabeth 2-6 Longbotham; to her eight grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; 2-7 and to the many other friends and relatives of this beloved woman; 2-8 and, be it further 2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-10 prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas 2-11 House of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in 2-12 memory of Evelyn Poag Prude.
