By Isett H.C.R. No. 173 76R10548 WMS-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas Tech University Lady Raiders basketball 1-2 team, under the expert direction of Coach Marsha Sharp, achieved 1-3 outstanding success in the 1998-1999 season by winning the Big 12 1-4 conference title and advancing to the regional semi-finals of the 1-5 NCAA tournament; and 1-6 WHEREAS, In addition to claiming the Big 12 crown, the team's 1-7 second in three years, Texas Tech also won the Big 12 tournament 1-8 and was undefeated on its home floor at the Lubbock Municipal 1-9 Coliseum in 14 games; and 1-10 WHEREAS, After earning a place in the NCAA tournament, the 1-11 Lady Raiders won consecutive victories to advance to the Sweet 16, 1-12 where they were eliminated in a hard-fought game against Rutgers 1-13 University 53-42, completing their season with a phenomenal record 1-14 of 30-4; and 1-15 WHEREAS, The Lady Raiders' overall success during the 1-16 1998-1999 campaign was a result of total dedication to the team 1-17 concept by members Angie Braziel, Alison Cudnoski, Keitha 1-18 Dickerson, Tanisha Ellison, Cara Gibbs, Rene Hanebutt, Aleah 1-19 Johnson, Julie Lake, Katrisa O'Neal, Melinda Schmucker, Amber Tarr, 1-20 and Kristi Washington; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Head Coach Marsha Sharp, who has built Texas Tech 1-22 University into one of the nation's elite basketball programs, was 1-23 recently recognized for her remarkable legacy of achievement when 1-24 she was inducted into the Texas Women's Hall of Fame; and 2-1 WHEREAS, The members of the 1998-1999 Lady Raiders have added 2-2 yet another chapter to their school's history of excellence in 2-3 women's basketball and it is indeed appropriate that they be 2-4 honored at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-5 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-6 hereby congratulate the members of the Texas Tech Lady Raiders 2-7 basketball team and Coach Marsha Sharp on their many outstanding 2-8 accomplishments during the 1998-1999 season and extend to them 2-9 sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further 2-10 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-11 prepared for the Texas Tech University Lady Raiders and Coach 2-12 Marsha Sharp as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of 2-13 Representatives and Senate.
