HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, It is always a pleasure to honor those individuals 1-2 who have served the citizens of the Lone Star State with integrity 1-3 and distinction, and the Honorable Carlton B. Dodson is one such 1-4 individual; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Born on May 14, 1928, in Dickens, he attended Texas 1-6 Technological College, where he garnered a bachelor of science 1-7 degree with majors in government, history, and education; and 1-8 WHEREAS, After graduation he operated the family cattle and 1-9 farming business, oversaw his own oil and gas leasing operation, 1-10 and played professional and semiprofessional baseball; in addition, 1-11 he honorably served his country as an officer of the U.S. Air Force 1-12 during the Korean War; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Having always dreamt of being a lawyer and judge, he 1-14 was admitted into Baylor Law School in 1954 and took the Lawyer's 1-15 Oath on December 7, 1956; his first job as a lawyer was as an 1-16 assistant district attorney for Wayne Bagley of the 47th Judicial 1-17 District; and 1-18 WHEREAS, In 1959, this distinguished gentleman joined the law 1-19 firm of Croslin and Pharr, later known as Evans, Pharr, Trout & 1-20 Jones, and counseled clients until 1970, when he became general 1-21 counsel for the Texas Tech University Complex; and 1-22 WHEREAS, On September 1, 1977, Justice Dodson was appointed 1-23 by Governor Dolph Briscoe to the Seventh Court of Civil Appeals; he 1-24 continues to serve in that capacity today and has participated in 2-1 the disposition of more than 6,000 appeals and has authored over 2-2 2,000 opinions for the court during his exemplary tenure; and 2-3 WHEREAS, At this time, it is most fitting that we honor 2-4 Justice Dodson for his many contributions to his fellow Texans and 2-5 to the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-7 hereby commend the Honorable Carlton B. Dodson for his fine work in 2-8 behalf of the citizens of Texas and extend to him sincere best 2-9 wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further 2-10 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-11 prepared for Justice Dodson as an expression of high regard by the 2-12 Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
