                             HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Dallas Cowboys conducted their 1998 summer
 1-2     training camp in Wichita Falls and this endeavor has been of
 1-3     significant benefit to both the city and the Cowboys' organization;
 1-4     and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Having long been regarded as one of the NFL's elite
 1-6     franchises, the Cowboys returned to form in 1998 by winning the NFC
 1-7     Eastern conference crown and a trip into the playoffs, as well as
 1-8     posting a regular season record of 10-6; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Although considered an underdog in its attempt to
1-10     win the honor of hosting Cowboys' training camp, citizens of
1-11     Wichita Falls saw their dream realized on February 17, 1998, when
1-12     owner Jerry Jones and Coach Chan Gailey announced they were
1-13     bringing the camp to Midwestern State University; and
1-14           WHEREAS, The city and private businesses financed the
1-15     necessary preparations to the practice fields, bleachers, fencing,
1-16     and residence halls over the succeeding five months, and when the
1-17     Cowboys arrived for the opening of training camp on July 14, 1998,
1-18     the citizens of Wichita Falls rolled out the red carpet for
1-19     "America's Team" as well as their many fans; and
1-20           WHEREAS, In addition to providing an ideal site for the
1-21     Cowboys to polish their football skills, Wichita Falls has also
1-22     realized a substantial financial benefit from hosting the training
1-23     camp, with an estimated $6.5 million being infused into the local
1-24     economy; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, The Dallas Cowboys will return to Wichita Falls in
 2-2     the summer of 1999, continuing their beneficial relationship with
 2-3     that esteemed city, and it is indeed appropriate that both the
 2-4     Dallas Cowboys and the city of Wichita Falls be recognized at this
 2-5     time; now, therefore, be it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas
 2-7     hereby congratulate the Dallas Cowboys' organization and the city
 2-8     of Wichita Falls on the outstanding success of the 1998 Cowboys
 2-9     training camp and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued
2-10     good fortune in their joint venture; and, be it further
2-11           RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
2-12     for the Dallas Cowboys and the city of Wichita Falls as an
2-13     expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and
2-14     Senate.
