No. 204 76R10128 GMW-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The family and many friends of the Honorable Bert 1-2 Hall of Round Rock were greatly saddened by his passing on January 1-3 14, 1999, at the age of 72; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. Hall was born December 30, 1926, 1-5 in Rio Vista; he joined the Army Air Force in 1945 and proudly 1-6 served with the United States Army Occupational Forces in Germany 1-7 following World War II; and 1-8 WHEREAS, After completing his military service, he earned a 1-9 bachelor of arts degree in marketing from North Texas State 1-10 University; in 1954 Mr. Hall was elected to the Texas House of 1-11 Representatives, serving his fellow Texans with distinction as a 1-12 member of the 52nd and 53rd legislative sessions; and 1-13 WHEREAS, During his tenure in office, this esteemed 1-14 legislator was elected poet laureate of the house of 1-15 representatives, and he was also the primary sponsor of the 1-16 legislation that created the Texas Commission on Alcoholism, now 1-17 known as the Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Mr. Hall went on to work for the Texas Department of 1-19 Health for 20 years, during which time he held the positions of 1-20 director of general services, liaison to the state legislature, and 1-21 director of special projects; and 1-22 WHEREAS, A founder of St. Richard's Episcopal Church in Round 1-23 Rock, Texas, Mr. Hall was a member of such notable organizations as 1-24 the Trojan Fraternity at North Texas State University, Mason's 2-1 Nolan River Lodge #453, and Round Rock Masonic Lodge #227; this 2-2 beloved community figure was also a noted raconteur, writer, and 2-3 actor who had a genuine passion for horses and enjoyed spending 2-4 time in Alaska; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Although Bert Hall will be deeply missed, his 2-6 remarkable spirit will surely live on in the hearts and minds of 2-7 all those fortunate enough to have known him, and it is indeed 2-8 fitting to honor his memory at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-9 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-10 hereby pay tribute to the life of the Honorable Bert Hall and 2-11 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, 2-12 Linda Puntenney Hall; to his children and their spouses, Byron 2-13 Hall, Jay and Laurie Hall, and Katha Hall Lacy and Dr. Tim Lacy; to 2-14 his sisters, Georgia Fuqua and Donnie Crocker; to his brother and 2-15 sister-in-law, Henry and Kay Hall; to his seven grandchildren; and 2-16 to his many other relatives and friends; and, be it further 2-17 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-18 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-19 House of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in 2-20 memory of Bert Hall.
