HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Bruce Thomson McKenzie on October 17, 1-2 1998, at the age of 70, brought a great loss to the family and many 1-3 friends of this esteemed individual; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A lifelong Fort Stockton resident and former mayor, 1-5 Mr. McKenzie was a graduate of Fort Stockton High School and 1-6 attended Texas Tech University; and 1-7 WHEREAS, On December 23, 1949, he was united in matrimony 1-8 with the former Carolyn Alyne Carruthers, and their long and loving 1-9 union was blessed with two sons, Ted and Bryan McKenzie; and 1-10 WHEREAS, A member of a pioneer ranching family, Mr. McKenzie 1-11 was a self-employed rancher and a member of the Texas Sheep and 1-12 Goat Raisers Association; he also enjoyed a 25-year career as an 1-13 employee of Firestone Test Center; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Mr. McKenzie was a longtime member of First United 1-15 Methodist Church and he served his fellow citizens as a city 1-16 council member and as mayor of Fort Stockton; in addition, he was 1-17 active in community service as a member of the Fort Stockton Rotary 1-18 Club; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Bruce Thomson McKenzie was a man of generosity and 1-20 integrity, and although he is missed by the many individuals with 1-21 whom he shared his life, his spirit continues to live on in the 1-22 hearts and minds of all who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be 1-23 it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-1 hereby pay tribute to the life of Bruce McKenzie and extend sincere 2-2 sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Carolyn 2-3 McKenzie; to his sons, Ted McKenzie and Bryan McKenzie; to his 2-4 sister, Virginia Chapman; to his brothers, Bill Ed McKenzie, Roy 2-5 Neal McKenzie, L. B. "Buster" McKenzie, and Gregg McKenzie; to his 2-6 grandchildren, Misty Lea Johnson, Jason McKenzie, Brandi McKenzie, 2-7 Tuesday McKenzie, and Austin McKenzie; to his two 2-8 great-grandchildren; and to the many other relatives and friends of 2-9 this beloved gentleman; and, be it further 2-10 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-11 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of 2-12 Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory 2-13 of Bruce Thomson McKenzie.
