No. 246 76R13018 JHS-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The members of the Texas Legislature are proud to 1-2 honor former State Representative Susan Gurley McBee, whose 1-3 outstanding service in behalf of the citizens of Del Rio has 1-4 contributed greatly to the lives of countless Texans; and 1-5 WHEREAS, A member of the Texas House of Representatives from 1-6 1975 to 1983, Ms. McBee distinguished herself as a hardworking and 1-7 exemplary legislator, setting a standard to which public officials 1-8 for generations to come may aspire; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The only woman in Texas history to serve as chair of 1-10 the prestigious House Calendars Committee, Ms. McBee followed in 1-11 the footsteps of her mother, who served two terms in the house 1-12 during the 1950s; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Recognizing that the future is dependent on children 1-14 and that their success as leaders is dependent on their education, 1-15 Ms. McBee followed her service in the legislature with an 1-16 outstanding career as a teacher in the Del Rio public school 1-17 system, and her influence on her students has been exemplary; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Choosing a life of public service is indeed 1-19 admirable and challenging, and Ms. McBee has depended on the 1-20 support of her husband, Larry, and her children throughout her many 1-21 years of service; in recognition of her commitment to the 1-22 well-being of this state and in honor of her lifetime commitment to 1-23 the people of Texas, it is truly fitting that Del Rio's new Texas 1-24 Department of Public Safety office building be named in her honor; 2-1 now, therefore, be it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-3 hereby authorize the General Services Commission to name the Del 2-4 Rio Department of Public Safety facility for Susan Gurley McBee; 2-5 and, be it further 2-6 RESOLVED, That the members of the Texas Legislature commend 2-7 their former colleague for her many accomplishments and extend best 2-8 wishes to her, her family, and the citizens of Del Rio.
