HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
1-1 WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Lucille Presswood, the
1-2 stewardship committee of Fort Worth's Carter Metropolitan CME
1-3 Church has recognized a number of African American men within the
1-4 Metroplex area as the first annual "Men of Quality"; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Ms. Presswood and her fellow committee members have
1-6 selected these devout men on the basis of their moral fiber,
1-7 wisdom, and dignity, as well as their roles as the cornerstones of
1-8 our families and communities; and
1-9 WHEREAS, "Men of Quality" lead by example, sacrificing
1-10 individual gain in their efforts to uplift others, while
1-11 demonstrating their strength and power through acts of kindness,
1-12 gentleness, and generosity; and
1-13 WHEREAS, The sure-handed guidance of these African American
1-14 role models has been a key to the success and well-being of
1-15 countless men, women, and children, and the time and effort they
1-16 have expended while sharing their knowledge and skills and
1-17 fostering loving relationships among family, friends, and neighbors
1-18 is indeed inspirational; and
1-19 WHEREAS, Too often our everyday heroes are overlooked or
1-20 overshadowed by the famous or infamous, though there is little
1-21 doubt that they exist in our neighborhoods, churches, and homes,
1-22 and the stewardship committee has done a great service to the
1-23 citizens of the Metroplex area by paying tribute to those husbands,
1-24 fathers, grandfathers, brothers, sons, and uncles who have been
2-1 selected as the 1999 "Men of Quality"; now, therefore, be it
2-2 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas
2-3 hereby commend Lucille Presswood and the members of Carter
2-4 Metropolitan CME Church's Stewardship Committee for their efforts
2-5 to recognize and reward these deserving men and for encouraging
2-6 other individuals to strive to be "Men of Quality"; and, be it
2-7 further
2-8 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
2-9 for Ms. Presswood and her fellow committee members as an expression
2-10 of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
