                             HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 1-1           WHEREAS, Betty Hardin is retiring from state service this
 1-2     year, drawing to a close a distinguished career in state government
 1-3     that has spanned 32 years; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Mrs. Hardin began her remarkable tenure with the
 1-5     state on January 10, 1967, which marked the first day of the 60th
 1-6     Legislative Session, and since that time she has observed many
 1-7     significant changes and developments in the State Capitol; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, This highly respected woman became a state employee
 1-9     while John Connally was governor and through the years she has
1-10     served during the administrations of Governors Preston Smith, Dolph
1-11     Briscoe, William P. Clements, Mark White, Ann Richards, and George
1-12     W. Bush and been a valued house employee during the tenures of
1-13     Speakers Ben Barnes, Gus F. Mutscher, Rayford Price, Price Daniel,
1-14     Jr., Bill Clayton, Gibson D. "Gib" Lewis, and James E. "Pete"
1-15     Laney; and
1-16           WHEREAS, With more than three decades of service, Mrs. Hardin
1-17     has proven herself invaluable to citizens of the Galveston area and
1-18     to numerous legislators who have served this coastal district,
1-19     including Representatives Dean Nugent, Andrew Baker, Lloyd Criss,
1-20     Mike Martin, and  Craig Eiland; and
1-21           WHEREAS, Mrs. Hardin's outstanding abilities and devotion to
1-22     her work have greatly benefited many Texas citizens and she is
1-23     indeed deserving of special recognition as she prepares for her
1-24     retirement from the state; now, therefore, be it
 2-1           RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas
 2-2     hereby commend Betty Hardin for her many years of exceptional
 2-3     service as a legislative employee and extend to her warmest best
 2-4     wishes for a happy and rewarding retirement; and, be it further
 2-5           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-6     prepared for Mrs. Hardin as an expression of highest regard by the
 2-7     Texas House  of Representatives and Senate.
