No. 290 76R11456 GMW-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The selfless efforts of members of the Plumbing, 1-2 Heating and Cooling Contractors Association (PHCCA) in bringing aid 1-3 to the flood-ravaged city of Del Rio are truly worthy of special 1-4 recognition; and 1-5 WHEREAS, In August 1998, flooding in Del Rio destroyed 625 1-6 homes and devastated 935 more, making nearly 15 percent of the 1-7 city's homes uninhabitable; the PHCCA quickly responded by 1-8 conducting a two-week rescue mission that sent plumbers, trucks, 1-9 and supplies to help this beleaguered community; and 1-10 WHEREAS, During the first week of the rescue effort, the 1-11 PHCCA deployed 10 trucks and 17 plumbers from Houston and three 1-12 trucks and plumbers from San Antonio; this group included 1-13 contractors from ARS, Charlie's Commercial, Allright Mechanical and 1-14 General Contractors, Walter Pickett Plumbing, Milton Frank 1-15 Plumbing, Bryco Plumbing, and The Loria Company, whose Sammy Loria 1-16 acted as rescue mission coordinator; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Others who aided in the initial campaign were 1-18 plumbers from All-Pro and AAA Auger Plumbers in San Antonio and 1-19 Christianson Enterprises in Austin, as well as PHCCA president 1-20 Stanley Briers, who provided living accommodations; and 1-21 WHEREAS, The second stage of the initiative sent another 1-22 group of plumbers and trucks to Del Rio from ARS, Charlie's 1-23 Commercial, and TD Industries; Gordon Wyrick of Aqua Plumbing 1-24 delivered $4,000 worth of donated plumbing parts from John Huettel 2-1 and Northside Plumbing Supply, and Jay Wark of Church Services 2-2 delivered water heaters supplied at no cost by Ferguson Enterprises 2-3 and State Water Heaters, Royal Plumbing Supply and Rheem/Ruud, and 2-4 Morrison Supply Company and A. O. Smith; and 2-5 WHEREAS, The rescue mission might not have been possible 2-6 without the vital cash contributions of Marty Kamerbeck of Moore 2-7 Plumbing Supply, Bobby Beene of Beene Plumbing, Inc., Jim Stagg of 2-8 Hajoca Corporation, and Sammy Snow of Snow Plumbing Supply; and 2-9 WHEREAS, The humanitarian efforts of PHCCA members to help 2-10 rebuild the community of Del Rio are indeed commendable, and it is 2-11 most appropriate that we honor the membership of this fine 2-12 organization at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-14 hereby commend members of the Plumbing, Heating and Cooling 2-15 Contractors Association for providing much-needed aid to Del Rio in 2-16 the aftermath of the flood of 1998 and extend to them sincere best 2-17 wishes for continued success in all their endeavors; and, be it 2-18 further 2-19 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-20 prepared for the Plumbing, Heating and Cooling Contractors 2-21 Association as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of 2-22 Representatives and Senate.
