                             HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas Legislature is proud to congratulate Jose
 1-2     Nino on his selection as the 1999 Mariachi Director-Teacher of the
 1-3     Year at the annual Bank One Tucson International Mariachi
 1-4     Conference; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Mr. Nino's honor includes the opportunity to serve
 1-6     as an advisor for next year's conference, where he will also teach
 1-7     and present a lecture to other mariachi directors; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, Born on April 23, 1974, in Freeport, to Jose G.
 1-9     Nino, Jr., and Lupe Nino, this remarkable gentleman was inspired by
1-10     his parents' love of music very early in his life; he began playing
1-11     the guitar at the age of two and the piano when he was seven; he
1-12     started arranging music and directing mariachi groups at the age of
1-13     13, and since that time he has served as a clinician and a mariachi
1-14     consultant for school districts; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Mr. Nino graduated from Brazosport High School and
1-16     moved to Waco in 1992; he attends Baylor University and also shares
1-17     his expertise as a musical specialist at Provident Heights
1-18     Elementary School and as a consultant at University High School,
1-19     where he directs the school's Mariachi Cultural musical group; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Under Mr. Nino's expert direction, Mariachi Cultural
1-21     received a prestigious honor by winning first place at the
1-22     International Mariachi Conference when it competed against many
1-23     skilled groups from throughout the United States and Mexico; and
1-24           WHEREAS, Mr. Nino is supported in all his endeavors by his
 2-1     friends and devoted family, which includes his beloved 5-year-old
 2-2     son, Miguel A. Nino; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, This outstanding educator has enriched the lives of
 2-4     countless Texans through his work, and it is a great pleasure to
 2-5     honor him at this time; now, therefore, be it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas
 2-7     hereby congratulate Jose Nino on his recent selection as the 1999
 2-8     Mariachi Director-Teacher of the Year at the Bank One Tucson
 2-9     International Mariachi Conference and extend to him best wishes for
2-10     continued success and happiness; and, be it further
2-11           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-12     prepared for Mr. Nino as an expression of high regard by the Texas
2-13     House of Representatives and Senate.
