No. 301 76R17502 BE-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The 90th birthday of a notable Texan is truly an 1-2 occasion worthy of special legislative recognition, and Mrs. Helen 1-3 Greathouse of Midland will celebrate just such a memorable 1-4 milestone on June 8, 1999; and 1-5 WHEREAS, This remarkable woman is something of a Midland 1-6 pioneer, having moved to the city on the last day of 1929; for many 1-7 years, Mrs. Greathouse and her beloved husband, the late Barney 1-8 Greathouse, ran the successful Midland Drug store; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The Greathouses' business was a popular city 1-10 landmark, located on Wall Street across from the Scharbauer Hotel; 1-11 the couple were well-known and widely respected throughout Midland, 1-12 especially so because of the many philanthropic efforts with which 1-13 Mrs. Greathouse has become so closely identified; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Her exceptional and giving nature has encouraged her 1-15 participation in a number of public-spirited enterprises; she has 1-16 contributed significantly to the Cerebral Palsy Center, Manor Park, 1-17 Midland College, the Midland Independent School District, the First 1-18 United Methodist Church, the Midland Association of Retarded 1-19 Citizens, and the City of Midland Swim Center; and 1-20 WHEREAS, She has received the Distinguished Citizen Award 1-21 from the Buffalo Council of Boy Scouts and the title of 1-22 Outstanding Philanthropist from the National Society of Fund 1-23 Raising Executives; and 1-24 WHEREAS, For countless causes and innumerable Texans, 2-1 Mrs. Helen Greathouse has been a benefactress of extraordinary 2-2 dedication; giving freely of herself, this humble humanitarian has 2-3 identified personally with the many organizations she supports and 2-4 bonded closely with the people she has helped, and it is a great 2-5 pleasure to honor her at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-7 hereby congratulate Mrs. Helen Greathouse on her 90th birthday and 2-8 extend to her warmest best wishes for a special and enjoyable 2-9 celebration; and, be it further 2-10 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-11 prepared for Mrs. Greathouse as an expression of highest regard by 2-12 the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
