CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The month of October typically brings many festivals 1-2 throughout the state of Texas to celebrate and honor the heritage 1-3 of this state's Czech descendants; and 1-4 WHEREAS, In the primary period of migration from Czech lands, 1-5 over a quarter of a million people of Czech ancestry arrived in 1-6 Texas to make this place their home; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Since that time, the number and stature of Czech 1-8 descendants living in Texas has grown tremendously; there are now 1-9 well over one million people living in all areas of the state and 1-10 walks of life who can claim Czech heritage; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Texans of Czech ancestry take great pride in sharing 1-12 with the rest of the state their contributions in the areas of art, 1-13 music, literature, food, folklore, and many other fine customs that 1-14 are a part of Texas' rich, diverse culture; and 1-15 WHEREAS, This pride is displayed annually in the month of 1-16 October by Czech Heritage Societies throughout the state as they 1-17 stage various festivals, some of which have been passed down from 1-18 generation to generation; now, therefore, be it 1-19 RESOLVED, That the Legislature of the state of Texas hereby 1-20 declare the month of October "Czech Heritage Month" in Texas and 1-21 commemorate the contributions of Czech culture to this great state; 1-22 and, be it further 2-1 RESOLVED, That, through the adoption of this resolution, the 2-2 Legislature of the state of Texas calls upon all Texans to join in 2-3 celebration in honor of our friends of Czech descent; and be it 2-4 further 2-5 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-6 prepared for the Czech Heritage Society of Texas, Inc. as a token 2-7 of high regard from the Legislature of the state of Texas.
