R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, January 22, 1999, marks the 80th birthday of 1-2 Virginia "Ginna" Steenson, and this auspicious occasion is truly 1-3 worthy of special praise and recognition; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Born in Tucumcari, New Mexico, on January 22, 1919, 1-5 Mrs. Steenson has spent the last 40 years as a valued resident of 1-6 Richardson, and her contributions to her community were honored on 1-7 her 75th birthday with a tree in the city's Leadership Grove; and 1-8 WHEREAS, A graduate of the University of California at Los 1-9 Angeles, Mrs. Steenson started her professional life in Lubbock, 1-10 where she began her career as a kindergarten and early elementary 1-11 school teacher for church-based schools; she continued her career 1-12 in Dallas and Richardson before retiring as director of West Shore 1-13 Methodist Day School; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Mrs. Steenson has been a vital member of numerous 1-15 community organizations through the years, including the Richardson 1-16 Women's Club, the Richardson Park Board, the City Charter 1-17 Commission, and the Richardson Citizen Police Academy; and 1-18 WHEREAS, A staunch supporter of the Republican Party, 1-19 Mrs. Steenson started campaigning in its behalf in the early 1960s 1-20 and was a precinct chair for many years; in the 1980s she held a 1-21 seat on the State Republican Executive Committee and was a delegate 1-22 or alternate to at least two national GOP conventions, and she 1-23 continues to show her support for the party through her membership 1-24 in the Richardson Republican Women's Club and the Dallas County 2-1 Republican Assembly; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Mrs. Steenson derives great happiness from her 2-3 close-knit and loving family; she and her husband, the late Wesley 2-4 Steenson, were blessed with four children, and today Mrs. Steenson 2-5 delights in the company of her three grandchildren; and 2-6 WHEREAS, At the age of 80, "Ginna" Steenson remains an 2-7 inspiration to her fellow Texans; she has made the world a better 2-8 place with her kindness, charm, and vivacity, and it is indeed 2-9 fitting to recognize her for her many accomplishments; now, 2-10 therefore, be it 2-11 RESOLVED, That Virginia "Ginna" Steenson, be congratulated on 2-12 the occasion of her 80th birthday and that she be extended sincere 2-13 best wishes for continued success and happiness.
