R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, February is National Children's Dental Health Month 1-2 and on February 8, 1999, the Dallas County Dental Society 1-3 Foundation will begin its celebration with a kickoff event at The 1-4 Science Place in Fair Park; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The foundation has invited schoolchildren from 1-6 across Dallas to attend the party and promote better dental care; 1-7 the theme, "Dental Health for a Lifetime," is designed to encourage 1-8 children to start the road to better dental health early and to 1-9 highlight the fact that good overall health begins with good oral 1-10 health; and 1-11 WHEREAS, The party is the first local recognition of National 1-12 Children's Dental Health Month, which has been sponsored by the 1-13 American Dental Association since 1948, and it promises fun, 1-14 informative games, and exhibits for all attendants; and 1-15 WHEREAS, "Toothbot," the Dental Society's robotic ally in 1-16 cavity prevention, will be on hand as part of an interactive 1-17 display, and local dentists, civic leaders, sports personalities, 1-18 and professional cheerleaders have all been invited to attend and 1-19 help spread the message that good dental health starts early; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Every child attending the party will receive a bag 1-21 of oral health aids that continue the theme, and the entire event 1-22 will help to ensure that this next generation of Dallas 1-23 schoolchildren will know how to make their teeth last a lifetime; 1-24 and 2-1 WHEREAS, The Dallas County Dental Society Foundation is a 2-2 nonprofit corporation founded to combat a sobering fact: less than 2-3 10 percent of the children in the Dallas Independent School 2-4 District receive adequate oral health care; and 2-5 WHEREAS, The foundation's mission is to provide funds and 2-6 services to improve dental health and knowledge in the Dallas 2-7 community; through enthusiastic and educational efforts like the 2-8 kickoff event for National Children's Dental Health Month, the 2-9 Dallas County Dental Society Foundation is making significant and 2-10 admirable strides toward success; now, therefore, be it 2-11 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-12 Legislature hereby recognize the Dallas County Dental Society 2-13 Foundation for marking National Children's Dental Health Month and 2-14 for working toward better oral health care in Texas; and, be it 2-15 further 2-16 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-17 prepared for the Dallas County Dental Society Foundation as an 2-18 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
