                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Carmen Villarreal of Weslaco has become the first
 1-2     South Texas educator to be named the Texas Business Education
 1-3     Association Secondary Teacher of the Year, and this singular
 1-4     distinction is truly deserving of special recognition; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, For three decades, Ms. Villarreal has taught at
 1-6     Weslaco High School, where she chairs the business education
 1-7     department and is academic coordinator for the University
 1-8     Interscholastic League, and countless students have benefited from
 1-9     her dedication and expertise over the years; and
1-10           WHEREAS, She was awarded the Texas Business Education
1-11     Association's District One Teacher of the Year award in 1997 and
1-12     advanced to the statewide competition;  by taking top honors at
1-13     that level, she has earned the right to represent the Lone Star
1-14     State at the association's national conference, to be held in
1-15     Chicago in the spring of 1999; and
1-16           WHEREAS, Over the course of her career, Ms. Villarreal has
1-17     distinguished herself as an educator of ability and integrity, and
1-18     her recent triumphs bring credit to the Weslaco and South Texas
1-19     business education communities even as they underscore her
1-20     excellence as a teacher; now, therefore, be it
1-21           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th
1-22     Legislature of the State of Texas hereby honor Carmen Villarreal on
1-23     being named the Texas Business Education Association Secondary
1-24     Teacher of the Year  and extend to her sincere best wishes for
 2-1     continued success and  happiness in the years to come; and, be it
 2-2     further
 2-3           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-4     prepared for Ms. Villarreal as an expression of high regard by the
 2-5     Texas House of Representatives.
