R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Joseph F. Hicks has been chosen as the 1998 Texas 1-2 Business Person of the Year by the Texas Business Education 1-3 Association (TBEA) and this prestigious honor is indeed well 1-4 deserved; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Mr. Hicks was graduated from Pan American University 1-6 in 1974 with a bachelor of business administration degree in 1-7 accounting; he has pursued a highly successful career in accounting 1-8 and is currently a partner with the firm of Burton, McCumber & 1-9 Cortez in McAllen; and 1-10 WHEREAS, A respected voice in his field, Mr. Hicks maintains 1-11 active membership in the American Institute of Certified Public 1-12 Accountants, Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, and Rio 1-13 Grande Valley Chapter of Certified Public Accountants; and 1-14 WHEREAS, In addition to his most recent accolade, Mr. Hicks 1-15 has received a number of other awards in recognition of his 1-16 efforts, including the 1997 TBEA Distinguished Service Award for 1-17 District 1, a 1992-93 UIL Service Award from Weslaco High School, 1-18 and an Appreciation Award from Louise Black Elementary School in 1-19 1986; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Mr. Hicks has also devoted his time and energy to 1-21 benefit such worthy organizations as the University Interscholastic 1-22 League, Rotary International McAllen, the Volunteer Resource 1-23 Center, the Boy Scouts of America, and the Leadership Valley Class, 1-24 and he is an active member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, which he 2-1 serves as a member of several committees; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Throughout the course of his professional career, 2-3 Mr. Hicks has made numerous contributions to the betterment of his 2-4 community, and it is truly appropriate that he be commended for his 2-5 significant achievements in light of this most recent accolade; 2-6 now, therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-8 Legislature hereby congratulate Joseph F. Hicks on being named the 2-9 1998 Texas Business Person of the Year by the Texas Business 2-10 Education Association and that he be extended sincere best wishes 2-11 for continued success in the future; and, be it further 2-12 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-13 prepared for Mr. Hicks as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-14 House of Representatives.
