No. 18 76R3774 GMW-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Gunter High School team finished in first place 1-2 at the 1998 Texas BEST (Boosting Engineering, Science, and 1-3 Technology) competition in College Station and this stellar 1-4 achievement is indeed worthy of special praise and recognition; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The two-day event, sponsored by Texas A&M University 1-6 and Texas Instruments, featured only the top-placing teams from 1-7 local hub contests and showcased the robotic creations of more than 1-8 20 schools from across the state; in the game, each team was given 1-9 an identical box of parts from which they had to create a robot 1-10 that could perform clean-up tasks at a hazardous building site; and 1-11 WHEREAS, In addition to their first place triumph, the Gunter 1-12 team also earned distinction for designing the most unique robot, 1-13 came in second for the BEST award for promoting the program, and 1-14 received $1,750 in grant money to use toward the school's 1-15 engineering science program; all of these honors were the 1-16 culmination of many hours of hard work and dedication by each team 1-17 member and coach; and 1-18 WHEREAS, This memorable academic accomplishment demonstrated 1-19 the impressive ingenuity and spirit of the Gunter High School team, 1-20 and it is truly fitting to recognize these talented young 1-21 entrepreneurs and their teachers at this time; now, therefore, be 1-22 it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 1-24 Legislature hereby congratulate the Gunter High School team on its 2-1 first place finish at the Texas BEST competition and extend sincere 2-2 best wishes for continued success and happiness in the years to 2-3 come; and, be it further 2-4 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-5 prepared for the Gunter High School team as an expression of high 2-6 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
