R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Howe High School team finished in third place at 1-2 the 1998 Texas BEST (Boosting Engineering, Science, and Technology) 1-3 competition in College Station, and this outstanding achievement is 1-4 indeed worthy of special praise and recognition; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The two-day event, sponsored by Texas A&M University 1-6 and Texas Instruments, featured only the top-placing teams from 1-7 local hub contests and showcased the robotic creations of more than 1-8 20 schools from across the state; in the game, each team was given 1-9 an identical box of parts from which to create a robot that could 1-10 perform cleanup tasks at a hazardous building site; and 1-11 WHEREAS, In addition to placing third, the Howe team also 1-12 received $500 in grant money to use toward the school's engineering 1-13 science program; these honors were the culmination of many hours of 1-14 hard work and dedication by each team member and the coach; and 1-15 WHEREAS, This memorable academic accomplishment demonstrated 1-16 the impressive ingenuity and spirit of the Howe High School team, 1-17 and it is indeed fitting to recognize these talented young 1-18 entrepreneurs and their teachers at this time; now, therefore, be 1-19 it 1-20 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 1-21 Legislature hereby congratulate the Howe High School team on its 1-22 third-place finish at the Texas BEST competition and extend sincere 1-23 best wishes for continued success and happiness in the years to 1-24 come; and, be it further 2-1 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-2 prepared for the Howe High School team as an expression of high 2-3 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
