                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The recent passing of Hugh "Brud" Boren, Jr., at the
 1-2     age of 87, has brought a great loss to the family and many friends
 1-3     of this esteemed gentleman; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Mr. Boren was a graduate of Snyder High School and
 1-5     attended Texas Christian University and the University of New
 1-6     Mexico; he served his country during World War II, earning the rank
 1-7     of captain in the U.S. Air Force; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, A respected professional in the banking and
 1-9     insurance industries, he learned the trade while working at his
1-10     first job  with his father's insurance agency; he later worked at
1-11     the Boren and Grayum Agency and the Snyder National Bank before
1-12     becoming a partner at Hugh Boren and Son Agency; Mr. Boren also had
1-13     served as director of Snyder National Bank since 1951; and
1-14           WHEREAS, This noteworthy individual put his expertise in
1-15     financial matters to use fighting against the windfall profit tax,
1-16     and  the National Association of Royalty Owners, of which  he was a
1-17     longtime member, honored him with a lifetime ambassador award for
1-18     his efforts in that battle; and
1-19           WHEREAS, In addition to his professional accomplishments,
1-20     Mr. Boren provided leadership to several civic organizations,
1-21     including the local historical society, the Texas Historical
1-22     Foundation, the Snyder Lions Club, and the Snyder Rotary Club,
1-23     which awarded him the "WHOO Award" in 1978 for unselfish service to
1-24     the Snyder community; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, Mr. Boren was a committed Christian who gave his
 2-2     time and support to the First Christian Church; he was a lifetime
 2-3     member of that institution and was a chairman of the board of
 2-4     elders; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, Hugh "Brud" Boren, Jr., was a man of integrity,
 2-6     honor, and generosity, and although he will be missed by all who
 2-7     knew him, his spirit will surely live on in the hearts and minds of
 2-8     the many people whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it
 2-9           RESOLVED, That special tribute be paid to the life of Hugh
2-10     "Brud" Boren, Jr., and that sincere sympathy be extended to the
2-11     members of his family: to his wife, Billie Jean Boren; to his three
2-12     daughters, Lila Dea Etheridge, Kleta Kay Smith, and Lea Ann Hilty;
2-13     to his three sons, Hugh Boren III, John Spencer von Roeder, and
2-14     Phillip Wade von Roeder; to his niece, Nonnie Ward; to his seven
2-15     grandchildren; and to the many other relatives and friends of this
2-16     beloved gentleman; and, be it further
2-17           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-18     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
2-19     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-20     Hugh Boren, Jr.
