R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Leadership Southwest class of 1998-99 from
1-2 southwest Dallas County embodies that area's commitment to the
1-3 future and the Texas House of Representatives is pleased to
1-4 recognize this outstanding group of individuals as they visit the
1-5 State Capitol on January 20, 1999; and
1-6 WHEREAS, A collaborative project of the Cedar Hill, DeSoto,
1-7 Duncanville, Lancaster, and Oak Cliff chambers of commerce,
1-8 Leadership Southwest is a program whose goal is to provide
1-9 participants with personal development and community involvement
1-10 opportunities, assuring a dynamic future for southwest Dallas
1-11 County; and
1-12 WHEREAS, Class members represent a cross-section of the
1-13 community who are united by their leadership potential and the
1-14 desire to make significant contributions to their communities;
1-15 selected by a board-appointed committee, participants live or work
1-16 in southwest Dallas County and are committed to full involvement in
1-17 the program; and
1-18 WHEREAS, Each month from September through May, community
1-19 experts lead day-long sessions on subjects relevant to southwest
1-20 Dallas County and its future; the curriculum addresses such issues
1-21 as education, local economies, infrastructure and transportation,
1-22 local and state government, health care and human services, the
1-23 arts, volunteerism, the justice system and law enforcement, and
1-24 quality of life, and includes a field trip to Austin during the
2-1 legislative session; and
2-2 WHEREAS, Program participants benefit by increasing their
2-3 knowledge of community and government issues, enhancing their
2-4 leadership skills, and making valuable contacts within the class;
2-5 their communities benefit from a talented pool of leaders who often
2-6 go on to serve on local boards and commissions and in other
2-7 significant posts; and
2-8 WHEREAS, The Leadership Southwest program promotes the
2-9 betterment of Texas through education of local citizens and
2-10 stewardship of communities; the southwest Dallas County class of
2-11 1998-99 is certain to have a positive impact on the region and it
2-12 is appropriate that they be honored at this time; now, therefore,
2-13 be it
2-14 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-15 Legislature commend the Leadership Southwest program and its
2-16 students for outstanding contributions to the Dallas community and
2-17 the State of Texas; and, be it further
2-18 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-19 prepared for the Leadership Southwest class of 1998-99 from
2-20 southwest Dallas County as an expression of high regard by the
2-21 Texas House of Representatives.
