R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of G. A. Parks, Jr., on September 21,
1-2 1998, at the age of 71, brought a great loss to the family and many
1-3 friends of this distinguished gentleman; and
1-4 WHEREAS, A native of Scurry County, Mr. Parks was born on
1-5 December 17, 1926; he married the former Aline Whitby on April 13,
1-6 1952, and together they raised two fine children with whom they
1-7 shared the pleasures of life; and
1-8 WHEREAS, A graduate of Fluvanna High School, this outstanding
1-9 gentleman served his country in the army during the Korean War;
1-10 after his return to civilian life, he worked for Chevron for 35
1-11 years, retiring in 1989 as a SACROC production foreman; and
1-12 WHEREAS, Interested in civic concerns, Mr. Parks served as
1-13 board member and president of the Snyder Independent School
1-14 District, as board member and chairman of the Cogdell Memorial
1-15 Hospital board, and as director of the Cogdell Hospital Foundation;
1-16 and
1-17 WHEREAS, Mr. Parks was a longtime member of the 37th Street
1-18 Church of Christ and shared his insights and wisdom as a Bible
1-19 class teacher; he served as a deacon and was an elder at the time
1-20 of his passing; and
1-21 WHEREAS, Throughout his lifetime, Mr. Parks remained deeply
1-22 committed to his beliefs and the betterment of society; he played a
1-23 leading role in the acquisition of funds to build a chapel and
1-24 learning resource center in the Price Daniel Unit in Snyder and
2-1 donated his time as a religious volunteer for both the Snyder and
2-2 the Colorado City prison units; and
2-3 WHEREAS, Among his many passions were a love of antique
2-4 bottles, ranching, and history; he pursued his avocations through
2-5 active membership and participation in organizations and events,
2-6 including the Scurry County Bicentennial Committee, the Scurry
2-7 County Historical Commission, the Scurry County Museum, the
2-8 Ranching Heritage Association at Texas Tech University, and the
2-9 White Buffalo Festival; and
2-10 WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to share the love and
2-11 friendship of G. A. Parks, Jr., will long miss his presence, and
2-12 he will surely be remembered with great affection and admiration
2-13 for many years to come; now, therefore, be it
2-14 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-15 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of G. A. Parks, Jr., and
2-16 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
2-17 Aline Parks; to his daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Jeff
2-18 Fulford; to his son and daughter-in-law, Whit and Tracey Parks; to
2-19 his three grandchildren; and to the many other people whose lives
2-20 were touched by this fine man; and, be it further
2-21 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-22 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
2-23 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-24 G. A. Parks, Jr.
