R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, On February 3, 1999, many proud residents of
 1-2     Nacogdoches County will be in Austin to celebrate Nacogdoches Day
 1-3     at the Capitol; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, A jewel of East Texas, this county seat sits nestled
 1-5     in the gently rolling hills of Texas' most abundant forest land;
 1-6     and
 1-7           WHEREAS, Named for the Nacogdoche Indians who settled there
 1-8     centuries ago, the city features several major industries and many
 1-9     small businesses, each of which strives to foster a spirit of
1-10     good-natured competition; the region's surrounding area is
1-11     highlighted by pristine lakes and rivers, making it a popular
1-12     destination for outdoor adventurers; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Nacogdoches holds the distinction of being the
1-14     oldest city in Texas, as well as the site of the state's first
1-15     newspaper, Gaceta de Tejas; historic monuments such as the Old
1-16     Stone Fort and the Old North Church are popular tourist attractions
1-17     and a source of great pride to the city's residents, and the annual
1-18     influx of Stephen F. Austin State University students infuses the
1-19     city with a youthful vitality and spirit; and
1-20           WHEREAS, This prosperous East Texas region has benefited
1-21     tremendously from the guidance and dedication of the Nacogdoches
1-22     County Chamber of Commerce; the members of the Texas House of
1-23     Representatives are pleased to welcome delegates of this fine
1-24     organization who are visiting Austin today, for the good work of
 2-1     this group will no doubt continue to emphasize the area's heritage
 2-2     while ensuring sure and steady progress into the next century; now,
 2-3     therefore, be it
 2-4           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-5     Legislature hereby recognize February 3, 1999, as Nacogdoches Day
 2-6     at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting
 2-7     citizens of Nacogdoches County; and, be it further
 2-8           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-9     prepared for the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce as a
2-10     commemoration of this grand occasion and as an expression of high
2-11     regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
