By Nixon H.R. No. 46 76R4338 BE-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Service in defense of one's nation is the highest 1-2 order of patriotism, and retired Air Force Master Sergeant Charles 1-3 William Jones, Jr., of Temple reflects just such an ideal, with 46 1-4 years of service to his country; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Jones was born in Tuscaloosa, 1-6 Alabama, on December 24, 1930, to Charles William Jones, Sr., and 1-7 Vista Hinton Jones; shortly after graduating from high school, he 1-8 entered the Air Force, and on July 1, 1949, began his notable 1-9 career with that proud military branch; and 1-10 WHEREAS, He served in the Air Force until August 1, 1975, 1-11 rising to the rank of Master Sergeant (E-7); his 26 years of 1-12 service included a year-long duty assignment at Phu Cat Air Base in 1-13 Vietnam with the 819th Civil Engineering Squadron; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Jones's dedication and capability 1-15 earned him a number of awards and meritorious honors that include 1-16 the Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the 1-17 National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the 1-18 Air Force Good Conduct Medal; and 1-19 WHEREAS, After retiring from the Air Force, he joined the 1-20 civil service and furthered his allegiance to his country as an 1-21 employee of the Veterans Administration office in Temple; his 1-22 20-year tenure with that organization ended with his second 1-23 retirement in 1996; and 1-24 WHEREAS, Since April 10, 1964, Master Sergeant Jones has 2-1 enjoyed a loving and strong relationship with his wife, Wanda Rae; 2-2 they have been blessed with many joyful years together, sharing 2-3 the love of five children, Tim, Denise, Claudia, John, and Charles 2-4 William III; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Jones has been active with American 2-6 Legion Post 133 and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Temple, holding a 2-7 number of leadership positions in both groups; through steadfast 2-8 service to his country, to his family, and to his faith, Charles 2-9 William Jones, Jr., has set an example for all Texans, and it is 2-10 indeed fitting to recognize him at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-11 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-12 Legislature hereby honor retired Air Force Master Sergeant Charles 2-13 William Jones, Jr., for his many years of service to his country; 2-14 and, be it further 2-15 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-16 prepared for Master Sergeant Jones as an expression of highest 2-17 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
