R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The arrival of the distinguished members of the
 1-2     Texas Legislature in Austin is truly cause for a celebration, and
 1-3     these esteemed lawmakers will be enthusiastically welcomed back to
 1-4     town at the Great Austin Bash on January 26, 1999; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Nurturing a vibrant downtown, Austin is a dynamic
 1-6     and diversified city, and its reputation as a center for education
 1-7     and the arts fits seamlessly with its prominence as a business and
 1-8     high-tech community of note; perhaps best known as the home of the
 1-9     State Capitol and The University of Texas, the city's natural
1-10     beauty and quality of life also represent a substantial attraction
1-11     to those who come to enjoy the various amenities of the River City;
1-12     and
1-13           WHEREAS, One of the most important aspects of Austin culture
1-14     is its rich music scene, which features some of the nation's most
1-15     talented musicians; in addition to being the "Live Music Capital of
1-16     the World," Austin is a burgeoning location for other facets of the
1-17     entertainment industry, having become a regional production center
1-18     for both film and television; and
1-19           WHEREAS, A popular tourist destination, Austin offers an
1-20     exciting range of possibilities to visitors, and it is hoped that
1-21     the public servants who have come to Austin to represent their
1-22     constituents during this legislative session will find time in
1-23     their busy schedules to sample some of the city's many attractions
1-24     and enjoy the city's hospitality and charm; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, On the evening of January 26, 1999, members of the
 2-2     Texas Legislature will be honored guests at the Great Austin Bash,
 2-3     hosted by the Austin legislative delegation, Southwestern Bell,
 2-4     Humana, Dell Computer Corporation, the Austin American-Statesman,
 2-5     the City of Austin, the Downtown Austin Alliance, the Greater
 2-6     Austin Chamber of Commerce, and Travis County; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, This outstanding event will feature performances by
 2-8     prominent local musicians, including Kelly Willis, whose intensely
 2-9     emotional music is a melding of country, rockabilly, and blues; and
2-10     Bruce Robison, a gifted singer-songwriter and engaging storyteller;
2-11     as well as surprise celebrity guests, all of whom ensure a festive
2-12     evening for those in attendance; now, therefore, be it
2-13           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-14     Legislature hereby recognize January 26, 1999, as the Day of the
2-15     Great Austin Bash and extend to the event's hosts and organizers
2-16     best wishes for a successful and enjoyable evening.
