R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, On January 28, 1999, exemplary Kiwanian and
1-2 successful business owner Lisa McCoy Cessna of Jacksonville will be
1-3 in Austin, and her outstanding performance in both civic and
1-4 economic arenas is indeed worthy of special recognition; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Governor of the Texas/Oklahoma district of Kiwanis
1-6 International, Ms. Cessna has ably served at all levels of her
1-7 Kiwanis membership; from club secretary to president, from Layman
1-8 of the Year to board member, Ms. Cessna has been a tireless and
1-9 effective part of the Kiwanis movement; and
1-10 WHEREAS, She has attended more than 2,000 Kiwanis and
1-11 K-Family meetings, functions, and projects, and has been a delegate
1-12 to 14 conventions; the Hi-Plains Kiwanian of the Year for
1-13 1990-1991, she has been an outstanding representative for Kiwanis,
1-14 a group dedicated to leadership and development of communities
1-15 worldwide; and
1-16 WHEREAS, Ms. Cessna is a small-business owner who works with
1-17 senior citizens as a field representative for East Texas Medicare
1-18 Plan; for a number of years she was affiliated with New York Life,
1-19 serving in a variety of positions and roles, each marked with her
1-20 trademark integrity and talent; and
1-21 WHEREAS, Previously, Ms. Cessna had a 13-year career in the
1-22 automobile business in Amarillo, highlighted in 1989 when she was
1-23 named Street Toyota-Mazda Salesman of the Year and was ranked third
1-24 nationally with Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A.; and
2-1 WHEREAS, Her continuing work within the community includes
2-2 her role as a mentor with the Jacksonville Independent School
2-3 District, volunteer work for Meals on Wheels, membership on the
2-4 Non-traditional Career Panel at Amarillo College, and service with
2-5 H.O.P.E. (Helping Others Pursue Enrichment) as a community
2-6 volunteer; and
2-7 WHEREAS, It is apparent that Lisa McCoy Cessna is a
2-8 remarkably involved and capable Texan, one who epitomizes the
2-9 spirit of Kiwanis, and it is indeed appropriate to honor her and
2-10 her work at this time; now, therefore, be it
2-11 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-12 Legislature hereby welcome Lisa McCoy Cessna to Austin and commend
2-13 her for her tremendous sense of public spirit; and, be it further
2-14 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-15 prepared for Ms. Cessna as an expression of high regard by the
2-16 Texas House of Representatives.
