R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The wedding anniversary of two outstanding Texans
1-2 who have remained devoted to one another for 50 memorable years is
1-3 indeed an occasion worthy of special recognition; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Lazaro and Rosa Olivarez will celebrate their golden
1-5 wedding anniversary on January 30, 1999, with family and friends at
1-6 a reception to be held at the newly and lavishly remodeled Villa de
1-7 Cortez, where Mr. Olivarez worked as an elevator operator nearly 60
1-8 years ago; and
1-9 WHEREAS, This devoted couple married on January 31, 1949, in
1-10 the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Weslaco, and through the
1-11 years they have shared an enduring relationship based on love and
1-12 respect for each other; and
1-13 WHEREAS, The Olivarezes owned a lumber yard for 35 years;
1-14 Mr. Olivarez has also worked in real estate and is a former member
1-15 of LULAC and the Catholic War Veterans, while Mrs. Olivarez is a
1-16 career homemaker who has been a wonderful companion to her husband
1-17 and a caring mother to the couple's children; and
1-18 WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Olivarez have been blessed with a large
1-19 family, which includes their sons, Lazaro "Larry" Olivarez, Jr.,
1-20 and his wife, Fela, and Joe Olivarez and Martin Olivarez; their
1-21 daughters, Minerva O. Reese, and her husband, Bob, and Sylvia O.
1-22 Villarreal, and her husband, Raymond; and their four grandchildren,
1-23 Lazaro Olivarez III, Lazaro William Reese, Robert Cole Reese, and
1-24 Jade Rose Villarreal; and
2-1 WHEREAS, After half a century of companionship, Mr. and
2-2 Mrs. Olivarez still cherish their time together and enjoy attending
2-3 mass at St. Martin Catholic Church; their remarkable marriage has
2-4 produced a fine family and many joyous memories, and it is fitting
2-5 that they be honored at this time; now, therefore, be it
2-6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-7 Legislature hereby congratulate Lazaro and Rosa Olivarez on the
2-8 occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to them
2-9 sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness in the
2-10 years to come; and, be it further
2-11 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-12 prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Olivarez as an expression of high regard
2-13 by the Texas House of Representatives.
