R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The recent passing of John Newton Hensley on January 1-2 16, 1999, at the age of 71, has brought a great loss to the many 1-3 friends and relatives of this esteemed gentleman; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Born May 25, 1927, in Prue, Oklahoma, Mr. Hensley 1-5 moved in 1938 to Odessa, where he graduated from Odessa High School 1-6 and later attended Odessa College; and 1-7 WHEREAS, He served his nation with distinction as a member of 1-8 the United States Navy, and for 41 years he was a highly valued 1-9 employee of Conoco, Inc., retiring from that company in 1988 as a 1-10 field supervisor; and 1-11 WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father, Mr. Hensley shared 47 1-12 happy and rewarding years of marriage with his devoted wife, 1-13 Maxine, and they were blessed with two sons; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Mr. Hensley was also a man of deep and abiding 1-15 religious conviction; he voiced his faith as an active member of 1-16 Immanuel Baptist Church and was a deacon for three decades; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to know Mr. Hensley will 1-18 long miss his presence, but his remarkable spirit will surely live 1-19 on in the hearts of those individuals whose lives he touched during 1-20 his time on this earth; now, therefore, be it 1-21 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 1-22 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of John Newton Hensley 1-23 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his 1-24 wife, Maxine Hensley; to his sons, John Rodney Hensley and Jarvis 2-1 Alan Hensley; to his brother, E. E. Hensley; to his sister, Lucille 2-2 McClead; to his mother-in-law, Beatrice Riley; and to his 2-3 granddaughters, Renee M. Hensley, Trisha L. Hensley, Kirsten M. 2-4 Hensley, and Heather N. Hensley; and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-6 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-7 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-8 John Newton Hensley.
