R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The recent passing of Marilue Adair Steakley on
 1-2     January 4, 1999, at the age of 81, has greatly saddened the family
 1-3     and many friends of this fine woman; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mrs. Steakley was born on November
 1-5     13, 1917, in the town of Josephine and graduated from Denton High
 1-6     School in 1933; she went on to earn bachelor and master of arts
 1-7     degrees from Texas Woman's University in 1937 and 1940,
 1-8     respectively; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Mrs. Steakley enjoyed a long and satisfying career,
1-10     teaching students from middle school through college during her 20
1-11     years as a professional educator; she also worked with children who
1-12     were having problems in school through a visiting teacher program
1-13     in the Odessa public school system; and
1-14           WHEREAS, After moving to Sherman in 1979, Mrs. Steakley began
1-15     her work as a volunteer at Wilson N. Jones Memorial Hospital, and
1-16     at the time of her death she had dedicated nearly 20 years of her
1-17     life to this pursuit; she also worked as a hospice volunteer and
1-18     had completed training to become an ombudsman for nursing homes;
1-19     and
1-20           WHEREAS, Mrs. Steakley was a staunch supporter of several
1-21     groups, including Delta Kappa Gamma and the Texas State Teachers
1-22     Association; she was an individual of strong religious faith and a
1-23     charter member of Grace Bible Church; and
1-24           WHEREAS, In addition to her many professional
 2-1     accomplishments, Mrs. Steakley was a devoted mother to her children
 2-2     and  stepchildren and a loving companion to her husbands, W. C.
 2-3     "Will" Adair, Jr., and Robert Everett "Bob" Steakley, both of whom
 2-4     preceded her in death; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, Marilue Adair Steakley was a woman of integrity,
 2-6     compassion, and generosity, and although she will be missed by all
 2-7     who knew her, her spirit will surely live on in the hearts and
 2-8     minds of the many people whose lives she touched; now, therefore,
 2-9     be it
2-10           RESOLVED, That special tribute be paid to the life of Marilue
2-11     Adair Steakley and that sincere sympathy be extended to the members
2-12     of her family: to her daughter, Barbara Adair; to her sons, Don
2-13     Adair, and his wife, Judy, and Ron Adair, and his wife, Beth; to
2-14     her grandchildren, Ryan, Mark, and David Adair, Amy Harber, Ben,
2-15     Sarah, and Catherine Martin, and Annie Waters; to her
2-16     great-grandson, Ian Harber; to her stepchildren, Bob Steakley,
2-17     Dora Lee White, and Nora May Verner; to her six step-grandchildren;
2-18     to her brothers-in-law, Marvin Steakley and Bob Adair; to her
2-19     sisters-in-law, Iola Lamb and Sis Finley; to her nephews,  Jimmy,
2-20     Bobby, and Harry Ray; and to the many other relatives and friends
2-21     of this beloved woman; and, be it further
2-22           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-23     prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas
2-24     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-25     Marilue Adair Steakley.
