R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Dorothy Barker's half-century of dedicated service
1-2 as a member of the Communications Workers of America has earned her
1-3 the Award of Excellence of the Texas Political and Legislative
1-4 Committee of the Communications Workers of America; and
1-5 WHEREAS, This prestigious award is presented to public
1-6 officials and members of organized labor who have demonstrated
1-7 excellence throughout their careers; and
1-8 WHEREAS, Mrs. Barker began her career with Southwestern Bell
1-9 Telephone Company in 1946, and shortly thereafter she joined the
1-10 Communications Workers of America; during her noteworthy tenure
1-11 with that organization, she has served as a chief steward,
1-12 associate secretary-treasurer, and secretary-treasurer of Local
1-13 6222, a position she has held continuously for 28 years; and
1-14 WHEREAS, This dynamic woman has also served as vice president
1-15 of the Texas AFL-CIO and the Harris County AFL-CIO and is on the
1-16 board of the Gulf Port Council; in addition, she is a trustee for
1-17 the Texas AFL-CIO; and
1-18 WHEREAS, Mrs. Barker's dedication to the labor movement has
1-19 been an inspiration to countless people, and her continued
1-20 commitment to her fellow union members is indeed deserving of
1-21 special recognition; now, therefore, be it
1-22 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
1-23 Legislature hereby pay tribute to Dorothy Barker for her longtime
1-24 service as a member of the Communications Workers of America and
2-1 extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and
2-2 happiness.
